Position description
- Performs specialty pharmacy duties in accordance with policy and state/federal regulations and provides telephone and consultation pharmacy services to specialty patients.
- Acts as supervising pharmacist when the pharmacy supervisor/manager/custodian is not in the pharmacy and cooperates with all other pharmacy departments.
- Prepares and distributes prescriptions/orders for specialty medications. Evaluate product-specific claims and comprehensive drug data files to assess prescription accuracy.
- Checks all orders for completeness. Verifies patient records and appropriate credentials and/or certifications.
- Double-checks all orders for accuracy before processing and shipping.
- Processes and fulfills orders accurately and timely according to manufacturer's instructions and prepares all orders according to SOPs and departmental guidelines/processes.
- Verifies that all prescriptions are complete and comply with regulations.
- Calculates correct doses based on specific instructions.
- Organizes and manages the work flow of technicians; review of drug manufacturing and labeling; checking order information, dosages, periods and delivery information.
- Provides professional product information and assistance to clinical staff, patients and pharmacy. Participates in clinical/staff and continuing education programs.
- Monitors all inventory and expiration dates of products to be distributed. Controls exact temperature requirements.
- Provides assistance and/or guidance in accurately filling, combining and shipping special product orders.
- Prepares labels and instructions for special orders/recipes of products. Maintains training information from multiple sources, keeps updated with new information.
- Maintains all information related to patients, nursing staff, health conditions, diagnoses, product use, etc.
- Prepares reports and follow-ups as directed. Maintain principles of dispensing, direct compounding and clinical expertise that are consistent and adequate to meet pharmacy standards of patient safety and effective care, including clinical monitoring, evaluation, compliance and enforcement; connects, dispenses and performs clinical functions in accordance with these standards

Ability to develop and maintain accounting systems and procedures
- Ability to perform end-of-day tasks - perform building closings, security checks and protocols and, if necessary, print the daily prescription log and perform daily computer backups.
- Ability to review drug interactions and manage patient medications accordingly
- Delegate pharmacy specialty areas to a pharmacy intern or pharmacy technician within their job description
- Implements record systems and processes required by pharmacy policies and regulations
- Supports adherence to company formula
- Use the clean claims concept by following proper pharmacy billing procedures
- Collaborates with management to continually develop and implement ideas to deliver quality and cost-effective services
- Participates in the Pharmacy Emergency Department as needed
- Works independently; demonstrate leadership in pharmaceutical practice; acting as supervising pharmacist
- Ability to direct and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling tasks
- Able to examine and redesign operations and procedures; development and implementation of new strategies and procedures (performance improvement), including best practices
Minimum requirements
- 3 years of additional experience in pharmacy operations, clinical supervision and patient care
- Graduated from an accredited college of pharmacy
- Valid and unrestricted licenses in good standing
- License to practice pharmacy in the state of Texas
- Meets or exceeds current Pharmacy Board C.E. requirements
- Ability to apply for additional state licensing depending on the needs of the company
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of computers and software and excellent word processing skills
