Competencies and skills:
- Interpreters must be fully proficient in their working language.
- the ability to immediately understand and convert one language into another.
- Interpreters also need a good understanding of spoken language.
- A good memory is especially useful. Excellent concentration and quick thinking are important.
- Convert the concepts of the source language into the corresponding concepts of the target language
- Collect information such as technical terms used in different communication environments, dictionaries and term databases.
- Speak, read and write fluently in at least two languages, including English and one or more other languages.
- Convey the style and tone of the original language.
- Repeat spoken messages accurately, quickly and clearly. Ability to explain cultural concepts to avoid misunderstandings and act as a cultural mediator.
